Abstract
Various stakeholders in India have been invested in the notion of obtaining 'data sovereignty'. In this essay, I try to unpack the historical and political dimensions underpinning the regulatory and legal developments accompanying these claims to 'data sovereignty'. Here, I argue that the contemporary discourse obfuscates and undermines alternative imaginations of technology and data governance in favour of centralised state-sovereign authority.
