Abstract
Energy resources have always been at the very heart of conflicts due to increasing energy demand and energy dependency of countries. In time, technology has started to facilitate energy generation and enabled countries and private individuals to generate energy by using different methods;one of these methods is hydraulic fracturing. Even though it is not very well-known, hydraulic fracturing has slightly caused several political discussions and changed oil production dynamics in the World. In this study, hydraulic fracturing which is a drilling technic used especially to extract oil, natural gas and geothermal energy from deep underground by injecting chemical liquids at high pressure will be examined within the concept of sustainable development principles. To do this: firstly, fracking technology and laws applied to fracking method will be underlined by focusing on international and national regulations; secondly, scientific records and reports will be summarized in order to provide a general sight about its effects on humans and environment; finally, this technique will be interpreted in the light of sustainable development principles, and the main reasons why fracking should be banned will be discussed.
