Abstract
The peri-urban status-seekers are the icebreakers of social stratification in eco-urbanization era of China. Their status-seeking behaviors towards environmental-friendly preferences in marginal utility changes mitigate the side-effects of negative consumption externalities. These icebreakers bear the cost of shrinking environmental inequality because their economic behaviors shape the ecological transformability from improving environmental infrastructures for enhancing ecological cohesion to compensating the loss of social cohesion in urban-rural co-development of China. It indicates to save the cost of social cohesion loss by enhancing ecological cohesion promotes relatively environmental income growth. The policy implication in eco-urbanization era of China is to improve ecological transformability by improving environmental governance for saving the cost of those icebreakers’ income growth in social cohesion to rising the general welfare of the people.
