Why People of Bangladeshi Origin Are Most at Risk of Dying from COVID-19 in the UK, i.e., Why They Carry the Highest Level of Those Six Deleterious Neanderthal-Inherited Genes

The genetic basis of why some people are afflicted with severe, life-threatening episodes of COVID-19 has recently been identified: the presence of a portion of six Neanderthal-inherited genes on chromosome 3 at locus 3p21.31: SLC6A20, LZTFL1, CCR9, FYCO1, CXCR6 and XCR1. However, it is not known why the percentages of those genes vary from region to region, with Bangladeshis carrying the highest level (63%) of those adverse gene segments. The goal of our investigation was twofold: first, to understand why South Asians in general, and Bangladeshis in particular, carry the highest level of the SARS-CoV-2-perilious variants of those genes, and second, on the basis of that understanding, to delve into and answer questions pertaining to the SARS-CoV-2 infections in the UK, such as, why people of Bangladeshi origin are most at risk of dying from COVID-19 in the UK; in proportion to its population-size, why the UK has the highest death rate in the world for that affliction; why most of the physicians who died from that disease in the UK, were preponderantly people of minority backgrounds. Our methodology was to find the association of those six genes with the history, occurrence and distribution of the haplogroup R1a1a1. We found an amazing maximization of both the gene frequency and the R1a1a1 frequency among the people of Bangladeshi origin. We concluded that it is those who belong to the Z93 subclade of the haplogroup R1a1a1, and whose ancestral homes were in wet and humid environments, that are most likely to carry those SARS-CoV-2-hurtful Neanderthal genes.
