Abstract

In the 2014 Spring issue of Network Tony Trueman explained the background to how sociology is one of the most featured disciplines in the media. I was fortunate to have my research reach both national and international audiences due to the BSA’s efforts at its annual conference two years ago. In early January 2013 Tony contacted me to see if I would agree to a press release based on my research into involuntarily older childless men. As he made clear, it would require little input from me, and I readily agreed. I met Tony’s request for information by sending summaries of my MA and MSc and recent presentations based on my PhD. Tony suggested the most interesting ‘hook’ for the media was the results from MSc indicating that some childless men were nearly as ‘broody’ as childless women.
