Abstract

Pregnancy is a phase of changes in whole body of a woman which includes physical, physiological, psychological changes. As females, now a days are more concerned about our health which was previously neglected area. In Asian countries the trend of female health concerns has consistently been growing in past few years. So, this chapter highlights about how Yoga can act as a multidimensional tool to tackle physical, physiological and psychological challenges faced by a pregnant woman. Here we also, highlight about prevention of Pregnancy induced pelvic instabilities by various yoga asanas during different trimesters of Pregnancy. Regular yoga and meditation during antenatal phase can helps in inducing relaxation, improving breathing capacity and cardiovascular endurance which helps in easy tolerance in labor. Various yoga asanas and meditative poses for weight reduction in post-partum period are also highlighted in chapter. We would also focus how yoga can be useful in reducing complications faced during pregnancy period such as GERD, Alopecia, Pedal oedema, Back pain, Carpel Tunnel syndrome, Haemorrhoids, Mood Swings, Sleep Apnoea, Gestational Diabetes, Postural changes etc.
