Abstract

The purpose of the study is to identify the preparedness of the Tourism and Hospitality Vocational Training Institutions of Dubai to incorporate industry 4.0 skills in the syllabus to prepare student capabilities for the future. In the early days, vocational training was not designed to prepare students for academics but rather designed to teach student-specific skills for a specific career. Today Vocational Training Centers has the responsibility to help students to understand the world of work in the 20th century and the jobs of the future. Training facilities have to teach the right skills that can empower students to take charge of their future. It is the responsibility of these training centers to take a good look at the future of education as well as potential jobs they are preparing students to do so that they can be better prepared for the challenges that lie ahead in the job market. According to OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), in the past, we learned to do the work, and today learning has become the work. Vocational Training must be willing and prepared to change with technology and should provide students with adequate training with the latest skills. Requirements of Industry 4.0 that will become necessary to operate in the job of the future will be advanced digitalization skills including Internet of Things, Big Data, Blockchain, Robotics and Augmented and Virtual Reality, soft skills for example Emotional Intelligence, Work Ethics, Proactive, and Complex Problem Solving, and Persuasion Skills. Gone are the days where educators can teach in the way they were taught to teach. Today part of training must include an increase in support apprenticeship models with diverse types of employers.
