Abstract
Fibre reinforced polymer composites are greatly preferred for their load performance and structural efficiency. In service, composite structures are subjected to static loading, dynamic loading and temperature variations. Under such circumstances, these materials are likely to accumulate with damages, which cause deterioration of their service life. In the first section of the research work, a review of selection of composite materials preferred for construction of aircraft and spacecraft is provided. Next section, deals with of composite materials for design of aerospace structures. Also a review on effectiveness of application of non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques and various soft computing methods for detection, localization and identification of damages at very early stage in aircraft structures is discussed.
