Abstract

This review paper presents the ongoing research on fracture and fatigue of structure under thermo-mechanical loads. The paper discussed fatigue crack at elevated temperature and effect of temperature on the dynamic response of the structure. It is found from the literature that the fatigue cracks growth rate increases with the rise in temperature. The complexity of the crack growth evaluation, limitations of the crack growth model, and their advantages are highlighted. Further quantifying the uncertainty of fatigue crack growth prognosis applied to structure with complex geometry and subjected to variable amplitude multi-axial loading is presented. The investigation of the thermal effect on the vibration behaviour of structures is also discussed. The conclusion highlighted the challenges and prospective research gaps are summarized.

Keywords: Fatigue crack growth; Thermal effect; Thermo-mechanical loads
