Abstract

In the context of modernity’s visual culture, images have taken on a new significance. This situation gives rise to several central questions, including What is an image?, How are images used?, What do we do with images?, and What do images do to us? I approach questions such as these from the premise that the imagination is an integral part of the conditio humana.

Keywords: image, imagination, pictoral turn, anthropology, conditio humana
