Abstract

Abstract. Contemporary Russian society witnesses and often actively participates in the development of the linguistic phenomenon known as Runglish. This article attempts to present a generalizing analysis of this linguistic phenomenon, which dates back to the fall of the USSR in the late 20th century. It demonstrates various approaches to the interpretation of the term ‘Runglish’, indicates the areas of its distribution and the reasons for its popularity, provides phonetic and lexico-grammatical features of Runglish, gives an assessment of degree of its influence on modern Russian, indicating both its negative and positive consequences. This research is based on publications of Russian and foreign linguists, writers, Internet users.
