How Well Does the Educational System in Scotland Meet the Needs of Junior and Young Mensans?

Abstract
This paper focused on the educational needs of Junior and Young Mensans in Scotland and questioned if the Scottish educational system meets their needs. The study was conducted with 22 students, who were all members of Mensa and have an IQ in the top two per cent. The results indicated that these students did not feel sufficiently challenged overall at primary school. Most students reported feeling challenged in secondary school, though 9% of students reported not being challenged at this level. Students preferred strategies for differentiation were having university classes during the week (acceleration) and visiting outside agencies (mentoring), followed by more demanding work in class (enrichment).
