I feel privileged to present the online version of the select research papers presented in the First PAN IIT International Management Conference – 2018, organised by the Department of Management Studies, IIT Roorkee in association with all IITs in India offering Management education. The need of the management education for the present hour, undoubtedly is to ‘cultivate the propensity of adaptability for techno managerial competence’ which motivated organising First PANIITIMC in year 2018. The present repository is an effort to signify ‘unison in diversity’ where in high quality research papers from diverse management disciplines i.e. HRM ,OR, Marketing, Economics, Finance, Decision Sciences and IT have been compiled and included after an extensive review. With an objective to enlighten the academic world as to how different fields of management education are leading towards the sustainable management, which is new paradigm, has also been included in current repository. The readers may benefit as the present repository provides an insight towards the present and upcoming trends for research as well as to demeanor further research in their area of interest contributing in academic richness. The papers included in the online repository are easily accessible through a dedicated link provided by SSRN, which can be easily accessed from any part of the world.
The PAN IIT IMC was organized in December 2018 and it took around 2 years’ time to complete the process of publication of selected papers. The year 2020 when we are completing this work, the world has witnessed, one of the worst crisis of human history. The spread of COVID-19 became a major challenge for the entire globe and many new business models and innovation came to save human life. Innovation is needed at all levels whether we talk of products or business models. Many new theories were developed in Wold War II and probably year 2020 was again such event in human history to develop new management lessons.
COVID has forced each of us to use virtual mode for almost everything. Hosting conferences, classes, examinations, medical consultation, work from home are new normal. The future is calling where we need more interdisciplinary researches. B-Schools in IITs can provide excellent opportunity for such interdisciplinary work. Future needs are more techno - managerial. Revolution like Industry 4.0 will bring management and technology closer. Therefore, it is very much required to bring different disciplines closer. The concept of MELTing pot is to be reality very soon. It is proposed that future PANIITIMCs will strengthen relation between management, engineering, law and technology.
When the conference was organized in 2018, Prof Z Rahman was Head of the Department later Prof M K Barua became the head and now Prof Usha Lenka is head of the department. All three provided excellent support in bringing out this publication.
