Abstract

The construction of the International Association of Hyperpolyglots (HYPIA) occurred in 2016 without much fanfare, and yet the association has come to reflect a unique ethos within the landscape of polyglotism, as a haven for practitioner excellence that reflects inclusiveness, decentralization, tolerance, and egalitarianism. This essay explores why such an organization had heretofore not existed, and why its construction has brought meaning and purpose to the domain of hyperpolyglotism.

Keywords: polyglot, multilingual, hyperpolyglot, language, applied linguistics
