Abstract

Technology is a tool to solve many social problems for comfortable life leading process. From olden days the technology is continuously progressed and different generations of technologies were developed and are substantially contributed to society for changing the lifestyle and comfortability of the people. In this paper, we have made an elaborative analysis of the saga of technology development in history and their contribution to civilian society. The technology generations of the 21st century are identified and their importance in social transformation and comfortability for human day-to-day life is discussed. Information Communication & Computation Technology (ICCT) as one of the major technology generations of 21st century is analysed by considering its underlying technologies, their applications in manufacturing and service industries to transform them as Intelligent Manufacturing Industry (IMI) and Intelligent Service Industry (ISI) respectively, along with future opportunities and challenges. Finally, the contributions of ICCT as a technology generation of 21st century, so-called Universal technology is predicted and discussed.
