Abstract

India is one of the worst-performing states in terms of achieving its Sustainable Development Goals. The unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic has worsened the situation of healthcare in India. Despite the poor health infrastructure, India has consistently allotted a meagre share of its total spending to healthcare. This paper aims to highlight the shortage of health expenditure in India as compared to other nations and also discusses the impact of poor healthcare in achieving India's SDG-3 goals. The paper also compares the healthcare models and expenditure employed by the Indian states of Gujarat and Kerala in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
