Abstract

Achieving sustainability for EDM process and products are an essential requirement of manufacturing industries of all time. Even though lots of research works takes place in the respected area, an efficient algorithm for optimizing the process parameters of sustainable EDM is limited. The objective of the present study is to check the feasibility of using TOPSIS - entropy integrated techniques in optimizing process parameters for sustainable EDM. In this work a novel approach of integrating TOPSIS and entropy weight method is introduced and validated its efficiency through case study. From this study the influence of environment, economy and society on sustainable EDM optimization is inferred. After validation the proposed model proves its efficiency in optimizing process parameters of EDM for a sustainable manufacturing operation. In sustainable EDM the optimum values of process parameters for machining HS steel using near dry EDM are; 25A current, 460 (μS) pulse on time and 105 (μS) pulse off time.
