Abstract

Data protection gets new perspectives in the new arena of a digital single market, and freedom of expression, especially because the threats caused by technological developments and terrorism actions. Also, societal changes, such as the use of social media may contribute to undermine the right to privacy and processing personal data. Thus, the European Union and Member States feel the need to strengthen the legal tools used for data protection. Preparing an agenda for a better data protection in the European Union has resulted with adoption of GDPR. In this paper the main goal is to analyze how the EU Member States, in particular, Romania and Hungary, adapted their legal framework to meet the requirements of GDPR and to make a more secure environment for data protection process. The analysis is based on a legal comparative approach and usage of qualitative data, and to answer to the following question: Is the GDPR interpreted in a same way everywhere in the European Union?
