Understanding the Residential Location Choice and Transportation

Abstract

The increase in urban population will result in an increase in the demand for housing. Obtaining land to build a residence or buying a place to live close to activity center is not easy. Meanwhile, the development of housing in areas outside the city center has changed the view of households to choose to live far from the city center. In this study, the data were collected through questionnaire with samples which are respondent lived in 3 different residential: Sunderland, Puri Mayang and Grand Kenali. The correlation analysis method is used to determine the value (R) that indicate a strong or weak relationship between residential location choice and the decision to move. Value (R) generated from this study is 0.822 which mean a strong relationship between residential location choice and the decision to move. Based on these result, this study conclude that people decide to move to new residential location influenced by house prices, housing environment, housing location, accessibility and transportation service. Furthermore, residential location choice and the decision to move will impact on the road capacity of H. Juanda street, the main street to access Sunderland, Puri Mayang and Grand Kenali housing complex.
