SCHOOL HEAD EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE CHARACTERISTICS AND PERFORMANCE

Abstract
The study was conducted to determine the School Head Emotional Intelligence Characteristics and Performance in the Division of San Jose City, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. The results on the socio-demographic characteristics of the respondents showed that the mean age of the respondents was 48.10. It was noted that 23.90% were in the range of 51 - 55 years old, 65.22% were female, 84.90% were married, 50.00% held School Principal I position, 47.83% were only 1 to 2 years in their position, 47.83% had master units, 80.43% supervised elementary non - central school, 56.52% earned a monthly income ranging from 36,000.00 to 41,999.00 and 52.17% had a very satisfactory rating. The emotional intelligence characteristics of the respondents, in terms of interpersonal communication under stress, personal leadership, self-management in life and career had were described as “most likely”. Results showed also that the emotional intelligence characteristics of the respondents in terms of Intrapersonal Development were described as “neutral”.With regards to School Performance, the majority of the schools got Level 1 on their school performance which is described as "developing". The school complies with the minimum requirements for securing and managing inputs, establishing appropriate structures and mechanisms, and improving processes that affect instruction and student achievement to produce the desired levels of outputs that lead to improved learning outcomes.
