Keeping the Genuine of Batik in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

Abstract
The emergence of imitation batik called as batik-patterned textile in the 1970s has torn down many traditional batik industries. This textile product was then more popularly known as batik printing. UNESCO's recognition in 2009 of batik as an intangible world cultural heritage from Indonesia, is referred to the original batik culture done by traditional processes, instead of imitation batik printed with screen print equipment or print machines. Original batik is a traditional textile made by process according to SNI 0239: 2014, it is a handicraft as a result of resist-dyed process by using hot batik wax (malam) as a color barrier with hand-written or stamped canting as the main tool of batik wax sticking to form certain motifs that have meaning. Many ordinary consumers have been victims of imitation batik, which they have believed that they purchased the original one. This paper will review the research and development carried out by Center for Crafts and Batik, Industrial Research and Development Agency, Ministry of Industry in conducting and utilizing the Artificial Intelligence technology to test the genuine of batik and its imitation.
