Abstract

This study investigated the CO2 absorption capacity of novel AMP–MPDL solvent. AMP was added into MPDL solvent at total amine concentration 30 %wt. at various AMP–MPDL blended ratios of 5/25 %wt., 10/20 %wt., and 15/15 %wt. The CO2 absorption capacity, in mol CO2/mol amine, was experimentally measured at temperature of 313 K and 363 K and CO2 partial pressure range of 10.1–101.3 kPa (10–100 %v/v CO2). The results showed that the absorption capacity of 30 %wt. blended AMP–MPDL were much higher than that of 30 %wt. MEA at 313 K. It was also found that the absorption capacity increased as concentration ratio of AMP increased. Additionally, as CO2 partial pressure increased, the absorption capacity was observed to be increased. As a result, 15/15 %wt. AMP/MPDL showed the highest absorption capacity among the three blended ratios. For the absorption capacity at 363 K, it was found that the effects of CO2 partial pressures and AMP–MPDL blended ratio on absorption capacity were the same with that at 313 K. Also, it should be mentioned that the absorption capacity of AMP–MPDL solvent at 313 K was higher than that at 363 K for all ranges of operating conditions. Therefore, it can be concluded that the absorption capacity of AMP–MPDL aqueous solution at temperature of 313 K and 363 K can be ordered as: 5%wt. AMP+25%wt. MPDL < 10%wt. AMP+20%wt. MPDL < 15%wt. AMP+15%wt. MPDL.
