Abstract
This essay is part of the University of Illinois Law Review's on-line symposium discussing President Joseph Biden's first 100 days in office. It looks at President Biden's picks to lead the Department of Justice and to serve as United States attorneys. The essay focuses on how President Biden's early selections are reflecting diversity, integrity, and experience. It recognizes the resistance some of President Biden's nominees are facing in the Senate confirmation process, particularly Vanita Gupta and Kristen Clarke — both women of color. And, it concludes with hope and expectations for the future of the federal criminal justice system under the leadership of recently confirmed U.S. attorney general, Merrick Garland.
