Abstract

The present editorial discusses the effectiveness of fines imposed on undertakings for violation of the Community competition rules. It puts the question whether criminal sanctions for persons responsible for such violations should be added to the box of tools at the disposal of the competition authority in the fight against cartels. The author invites the Commission to consider this possibility and to launch a more general debate on the subject in the perspective of a coming revision of Regulation 1/2003.
