Abstract

Meaning is made from the inside out and also from the outside in. From the inside out, meaning revolves around us and provides us with a sense of our importance and goodness. From the outside in, it is based on what we need to know to get by with others who don’t think we are such a big deal. The first is the province of the mother and the second is of the father. We need both of these. There is a tension between them, but it is responsible for everything people have done. We learn to incorporate this tension through our family. But we must see mutual love and appreciation. If that breaks down, as when the mother detests the father, everything falls apart
