Abstract

The European Parliament is about to be concerned with a proposal for an International Procurement Instrument (IPI). This is part of a legislative process that has been ongoing for almost a decade. Once adopted, the IPI will enable the European Union (EU) to take measures with the aim of reducing measures by states outside the EU. Using the amended proposal by the Council, this text provides the reader with an introduction to the issue and - as far as possible at this time - an outlook towards potential future impacts of the IPI, when it will eventually enter into force.
