Abstract

Blockchain has proven to be a disruptive technology for many market verticals and education is one such large and growing market with significant social, economic, and technical challenges. Through 2021, blockchain technologies have emerged as a potential growth area in educational technologies (EdTech). This preliminary market analysis addresses some current challenges in higher education, surveys and analyses the edtech market, and makes recommendations for enhancing the scholarly value chain through blockchain technologies. We conclude that while blockchain offers many interesting opportunities for higher education it has not yet been widely deployed and faces significant challenges to adoption.
