Abstract

Ph.D. candidates usually come from a background as great students, but transitioning to Ph.D. candidate or junior faculty can be challenging. The challenges include transitioning from student to teacher, from solving pre-defined problems to open-ended research problems, and from an environment with lots of classmates to a potentially lonelier one. I will try to give some tips on how to succeed in academia in the hope that at least one of the tips will help you get an idea for a paper, present more effectively, teach, or have more fun.
