Abstract

A gradually widening call for AI systems to provide an explanation of the underlying innermost algorithmic efforts has led to a burgeoning subfield known as Explainable AI (XAI). In essence, an AI system should be able to generate an explanation for its actions and algorithmic decisions. This is especially crucial for AI systems in the law, encompassing both those nice-to-have explanatory aspects and those altogether legally required interpretive aspects.
