Abstract
This study investigated the students’ variables and academic achievement of senior secondary school 2 Chemistry in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross State area of cross river state, Nigeria. The study adopted expost facto research design. The population of this study comprised all the senior secondary school chemistry students totaling 1,000. A sample of 100 Students were randomly drawn from both public and private secondary schools. Two research instruments chemistry achievement test (CAT) and questionnaire named students variable questionnaire were used to obtain data for the analysis in this study. These instruments were validated and also found to be reliable with a reliability coefficient of 0.87 using Pearson product moment correlation statistics. Three (3) hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance using independent t-test and ANOVA as statistic tools for the analysis. The following findings emerged. All the hypotheses were significant. This implied that, students’ attitude, students’ age and school type have influence on academic achievement of SS2 Chemistry Students. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that, students’ age should be considered when giving admission to students.
