Abstract

As the title suggests, this article addresses weak claims for traditional legal style and bogus criticisms of clear, plain legal style—30 in all. The responses are fairly short, but the article contains many references to relevant books and articles. The claims and criticisms will be familiar to some readers, but the article brings them all together in one place.

Keywords: legal writing, legal drafting, legalese, clear writing, plain language
