Abstract

A completely exfoliated structure APP-MMT nanocomposite was prepared and applied  to prepare TPU composites containing APP-MMT and CFA. The synergism of thermal stability between APP-MMT and CFA is superior to APP and CFA, and the char residue was greatly improved. APP-MMT nanocomposite is beneficial to tightness and strong char of TPU composites. The CFA can improve the thermal stability of TPU. Compared with APP/CFA, the pHRR of APP-MMT/CFA is lower and LOI is higher. When the APP-MMT/CFA compound proportion is 3:1 in weight, LOI value is 25.4%,the THR decreases by 36.6%, and the smoke production and CO emission are restrained. APP-MMT can improve the dispersion of CFA in the TPU, and the mechanical properties of TPU composites is better than that of TPU with CFA alone.  APP-MMT promotes the formation of a good protective carbon layer after the combustion of the TPU composites to improve its flame retardancy.
