Abstract
Acrylic acid is a popular and valuable chemical intermediate used to produce polymers, textiles, and numerous other industrial and consumer products. Global acrylic acid market is predicted to rise in the coming years. Due to this lucrative market, this project focuses on the simulation of an acrylic acid plant in the Honeywell UniSim Design R471 simulation tool. In this work, the simulation of the glacial grade acrylic acid production process is carried out which produced acrylic acid and acetic acid. Ten sensitivity studies were carried out to determine the important process parameters. The HINT software was employed to determine the minimum utilities required and possible savings by integration of heat exchangers. The preliminary cost required for establishing a similar acrylic acid plant was approximately estimated and it was concluded that the plant is profitable.
