Abstract

English Abstract: This article examines the different bonds formed in the sacrament of marriage. For that purpose, the text goes through its various types: (1) the consanguineous bond, (2) the bond by affinity, (3) the bond by spiritual kinship and (4) the bond by adoption. It deals with the Spanish-American reality in early modern times, with special interest in the indigenous population and resulting problems. It ends with a brief historiographic reflection. The appendix argues that the arbores consanguinitatis et affinitatis in the Cursus of Pedro Murillo Velarde can be considered as an example of how graphic epitomization applied to kinship diagramms contributed to the production and transmision of religious normative knowledge.

Keywords: sacrament of marriage, bonds of marriage, kinship, canon law, Spanish America
