Abstract

This book chapter sets forth a comprehensive and up-to-date review of Alabama Water Law, including a brief exploration of water pollution and habitat degradation in Alabama. The chapter concludes with a thorough exploration of the recent “water wars” between Georgia, Florida, and Alabama over the waters of the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint (ACF) River basin and the dispute between Georgia and Alabama over the waters of the Alabama-Coosa-Tallapoosa (ACT) River system. The dispute between Florida and Georgia, moreover, ripened into a struggle that went to the U.S. Supreme Court twice over the course of the last decade.

Keywords: water law, water rights, interstate allocation, Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint (ACF) River System, Alabama-Coosa-Tallapoosa (ACT) River System, Environmental law
