On Application of Metaverse in Medical Education via Platform of Medical Electronic Journals: A Case Study of Journal of Trauma and Emergency Electronic Version

Abstract

Metaverse would expand virtual world and may be the future of the internet. This article aimed to provide reference for the transformation in the pedagogy of medical education in the next digital era. The authors took the Journal of Trauma and Emergency Electronic Version as an example to elucidate the ways to give users a more immersive, interactive and collaborative learning experience by applying VR, AR, 5G and cloud computing, etc. The authors proposed a framework of a metaverse world for online medical education via the platform of the medical electronic journal in terms of a journal-based virtual world for academic resources, immersive interface for engaging learning experience and situated learning to facilitate the transfer of knowledge. The authors finally discussed the significance and challenges of metaverse for medical education via platform of medical electronic journal.
