Abstract

This paper presents Simulation and Hardware analysis of Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) Fed PMSM drives for automotive application. In the proposed work the Voltage Source Converter (VSC) fed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) drive system is Designed, simulation and implementation using Microcontroller are presented. Simulation is carried out on MATLAB-Simulink software under various operating Conditions to show the effectiveness of proposed methodology and lab setup is designed and implemented based on a Fourpole, 373 W PMSM drive. The simulated performance along with test results of the PMSM drive is studied for starting, steady-state condition, speed and load variation .It is found that, the speed of the motor by varying the inverter frequency to check the performance of the motor. By varying the load, speed and frequency remains constant. Hence it shows the improved performance of the motor in test results. The simulated outcome of PMSM drive are studied for speed, different load condition and also on starting condition. Experimental results show that the performance of the drive system has excellent dynamic response in terms of speed and torque responses. Hence PMSM drive is suitable for automotive application.
