Abstract

In 2020, Puerto Rico adopted a new Civil Code, which contains 37 articles on choice of law. This Article describes an earlier project to codify Puerto Rico’s conflicts law under the auspices of the Puerto Rican Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation. Because the journal in which the Article is published is not easily accessible, the Article is posted here so that interested readers may compare the substance, style, methodology and philosophy of the two projects.

An article by the same author entitled “Codifying Choice of Law for Contracts: The Puerto Rico Projet”, which describes another part of the Academy’s project, is also posted on SSRN at http://ssrn.com/abstract=2074415.

Keywords: Private international law, conflict of laws, choice of law, codifiation, statutes of limitations
