Assessment of Social Emotional Learning Among Junior High School Students

Abstract

This study investigated the social emotional learning among junior high school students of Bucao Integrated School, which was conducted in the school year 2021-22.

Results of the study focused on aspects of socio-emotional learning among students and their experiences of their current situation, as well as perceived experiences of providing social and emotional learning among students. A closed-ended questionnaire with a four-point Likert scale was used to collect data. Information was descriptively analyzed. Findings showed that the student-respondents perceived agreed that they are aware of their socio-emotional status primarily with the different competencies of socio-emotional learning in terms of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and self-efficacy and that their environment and the support they received in terms of teacher-student relationship, engagement, and valuing school have a great impact on their socio-emotional status.

Department Heads and School Heads/Principals may plan and implement an Awareness Campaign Program, as well as conduct an Orientation for students, with the goal of improving their ability to manage their socio-emotional status. School Heads/Principals may conduct training-workshops and orientation aimed to further the knowledge of students in coping and handling mental health issues. School Heads/Principals may conduct training and orientation of parents and teachers on the different strategies of counseling that may help in guiding students' socio-emotional learning.
