Abstract

Improvement in the quality and efficiency of health and medicine, at home and in hospital, has become paramount importance. Humans are facing the problem of unexpected death due to various illnesses which is due to a lack of medical care for the patients at right time. The solution to this problem would require the continuous monitoring of several key patient parameters, including body temperature, heart rate and oxygen saturation in the blood. The primary requirement is to develop a reliable patient monitoring system so that healthcare professionals can monitor their patients, who are either hospitalized or at home. IoT based integrated healthcare system ensures that the patients’ health parameter monitoring can be taken care in a better way. Recent advances in embedded systems, microelectronics, sensors and wireless networking enable the design of wearable systems capable of such health monitoring. In this paper, an improved health monitoring system is proposed which affords the monitoring of skin temperature and heart activity. A compact wrist device is designed based on a programmable microprocessor unit capable of sending data using IoT. Two different systems are designed using Raspberry Pi and NODEMCU and compared by testing the developed hardware with a user interface for checking reliability.
