Abstract

[Based on historical commercial-scale production data, this paper shows how a plant’s annual TCS capacity could be increased for a Direct Chlorination process. It illustrates the importance of a high degree of fluidization to reduce the annual batch downtime of a fluidized bed reactor. A schematic and mass balance is given, along with the resulting reaction exotherm, heat transfer area requirements, and the heat transfer coefficient achieved at high fluidization. Discussion is offered as to how a TCS producer can use this data to evaluate possible improvements to existing metallurgical silicon specifications. Abstract Body]
