Abstract

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is used for determining the structure of organic molecules in solution and study molecular physics, crystals as well as non-crystalline materials, and advanced medical imaging techniques. Coils are needed to apply RF oscillating field which is used to detect signals. NMR micro coils have a smaller diameter and provide increased sensitivity as well as high resolution. In this review, we provide an overview of the designing, fabrication, and preliminary testing of NMR micro coils. We studied a wide range of different micro coils such as Planar, Solenoid, Scroll, Cone-shaped, Helmholtz, Standing, etc. Finally, we concluded that the Helmholtz micro coil has better performance as compared to other micro coils studied. The Helmholtz micro coil structure is best since it provides a uniform magnetic field and high SNR value.
