Abstract

Australia's News Media Bargaining Code has been rightly praised as world leading. It has seen over A$200m paid from Google and Facebook to Australian media companies; small, medium and large. There have been some criticisms but nearly all criticise the Code for not doing what it never sought to do. Instead, it was targeted to balancing the bargaining power between the digital platforms and news media businesses, which it was successful in doing, so that commercial deals could be done.

Keywords: Journalism, media, Google, Facebook.
