Abstract

This Research Work is Titled Pollution in the Niger Delta Region Of Nigeria. While commercial exploration of oil in Nigeria has undoubtedly brought with it significant benefits to the country especially in terms of economics and social development, it has left in its wake, series of damages to the ecological system due to spillages of oil and other toxic materials from causing significant pollution on the marine environment specifically off the coasts of Lagos and other industrialized areas of the Niger-delta region i.e. Port-Harcourt and Warri. This seminar paper seeks to bring to enlightenment, a clear understanding of marine pollution as result of oil exploration activities, and its plethora of effects on Nigerian coastal resources and suggest solutions to maintaining a sustainable marine environment. It also highlights the regulatory measures in place to control oil pollution in Nigeria and the efficacy of the enforcement mechanisms.
