Abstract
A general commentary on the first book of Homer’s Odyssey. Under focus are the initial characterization of Odysseus, the assembly of the gods, the character of Telemachus, the character of Penelope, the characterization of the suitors, and the importance of oikos. This therefore provides a foundation for an understanding of the themes within the rest of the Odyssey.
