Abstract
Field experiments that utilize correspondence audits to examine various areas are becoming more common. While there are guides for correspondence audit designs in general (Gaddis, 2018), no detailed guides exist for correspondence audits that examine the impact of criminal history on hiring outcomes. This is a crucial gap in the literature as many correspondence audits that examine the impact of criminal history on hiring outcomes fail to provide information necessary for true replication. Further, recent correspondence audits exploring this area have utilized new and innovative methodological approaches that can improve the rigor of future studies. Given the importance of replication and rigor to the scientific method, the current paper aims to provide a concise guide for those intending to design and implement an experimental correspondence audit that examines the impact of criminal history on hiring outcomes.
