Abstract

In an era where managers are seeking to improve employees’ efficiency and decrease time-waste on the job, social media use through mobile telecommunication tools is invading the work-place, causing managerial worry and resulting in a wide array of management decisions.  The purpose of the use of these media, the type of media used, as well as the rate of use, are factors that are affecting employees’ performance at work.  The study results reveal some effects of these variables on performance. What remains to be discovered is whether their impact warrants blowing the whistle, or whether the trend will fade away and performance will turn-around as a result of better satisfied employees on the job, or whether the younger workforce who adopted the connectivity technology will be able to bridge to the other shore where performance remains within range.
