Abstract

Italy, with its 54 UNESCO sites, is the country that boasts the largest number of World Heritage properties in the world on the World Heritage List of the Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage adopted on 16 November 1972 by the 17th session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

The current work therefore brings together a presentation of UNESCO and its Conventions dedicated to the heritage of humanity and the protection of cultural diversity, including the treaty sources reserved for the protection of cultural property in armed conflicts, as well as an analysis of the activities of the Italian diplomatic representation at the specialised UN organisation.
