Abstract

The present research deals with an efficient, simple, environment friendly and cost effective approach of coating including synthesis of novel copolymer combinations of polymeric materials along with nanoparticles and their application on glass substrate under optimal temperature and pressure conditions. Transparent, protective and hydrophobic polymeric materials to coat glass substrates have been developed by free radical polymerization and applied by simple cost-effective dip coating method on glass slides rather than CVD, PVD and spin coating method. Protective and Self-cleaning coverings have gotten lot of consideration of late, equally in exploration and development and in business claims. The advantageous mode of such coatings includes reduction of preservation costs and defence against environmental pollutants. In this regard hydrophobic surfaces are very important for their self cleaning property because of water droplets rolling nature along with dirt particles. In this research work different novel combinations of polymeric components were developed and for further improvements added activated titanium dioxide powder. The coated specimens investigated by UV Visible Spectroscopy, FTIR, SEM for surface morphology, Goniometry (contact-angle), Particles Size, thickness, gloss, self cleaning activity, transparency and decorative applications etc. Results revealed that developed material has good adhesion with glass and has very high transparency more than 97%, and static water contact edge (CA) of 105.5 ± 2°, durability and self-cleaning activity. Furthermore, the covering is economic easy to use and displays astounding self-cleaning property. All the outcomes demonstrated that such kind of coatings could likewise use for self-cleaning and transparent coatings at the modern level for application on automobile wind screen and glass-windows in building and other glasses where protection from UV radiation, anti-fogging and cleaning is required. Such type of coating material can also be used to preserve architectural, leather, decoration pieces and artwork.
