Abstract

Climate change has put the Arctic into the global spotlight. Unlike in the case of Antarctica, there is no single comprehensive international legal regime for the Arctic. As the world’s interest in the Arctic grows, the eight Arctic nations continue to engage in cooperation across political divides and attempt to remain at the forefront of shaping the international legal norms which govern the Arctic. This text looks at the emerging future of Arctic law, its globalization and normalization and the Arctic nations’ struggle for relevance. The readers are introduced to different facets of Arctic law and the author seeks to answer the questions which drive the development of Arctic law today: how will the international law of the Arctic look like in the future, and who will create it?
